NAMI Walks 2024: September 28, 2024
Save the Date!
Our Rochester NAMIWalks is taking place on September 28th, 2024! To find out how you can get involved, please contact David Makepeace at dmakepeace@namiroc.org.
We’ve been there. We can help.
All of our NAMI staff, volunteers and facilitators have lived experience with mental illness as a peer and/or family member. We know firsthand how confusing and overwhelming the mental health system can be. Our organization is filled with practical knowledge, as well as the wisdom and empathy of someone who has walked in very similar shoes.
We suggest the following to help you get acclimated:
Familiarize yourself with the language and terminology around mental illness, and incorporate it into your daily life. It may seem small, but language matters.
Learn everything you can about mental health conditions. Remind yourself daily that the brain is an organ and can be healed – recovery is possible.
Attend a Family and Friends group (coming soon!) — a 90-minute or 4-hour introductory presentation.
Attend a NAMI support group, for those with a mental health condition or for family members and caregivers. You are not alone.
